Hello. Welcome to the beginning of the establishment of a new independent bookstore in Huntington, NY. With the counsel of Richard Klein, Book Revue’s owner, I intend to start a bookshop in this town. To do so, we are using the platform, Kickstarter. Our goal is to raise $250,000 in 45 days. If we do not reach $250,000 in 45 days, all of the donations go back to the donors. We are offering tiers of rewards for various donation levels but in my opinion, the best reward will be for there to be a bookstore in Huntington Village. To introduce myself a bit more, my name is Mallory Braun and for more than five years, I was a manager at Book Revue. My focus there was on rare and used books. I graduated from Walt Whitman High School and UMass Amherst.
They say there are inescapable things in this reality. Gravity (probably, but I’m a bookseller not a physicist), taxes (for most of us), rent-hikes and death (no comment on those last two).
I would request a few more positive additions: the freedom to determine your own future and to learn whatever you want. There is much to learn. It helps to read and to have the tutelage of someone who owned a bookstore for 44 years and who has been in the book business about 50. It helps to work at a bookstore. It also helps just to go to one.
I wrote most of this letter in a bookshop devoid of its books. To read the rest of it and to learn more about the establishment of another independent bookstore in Huntingon, please click here.
