A groundbreaking novel which has spent over 30 weeks on the New York Times Best Seller list, The Vanishing Half explores themes of race, family, and identity. It tells the story of Desiree and Stella Vignes, identical twin sisters who grew up in the Jim Crow South before escaping at age 16 and diverging on separate life paths.
Brit Bennett teaches in the Creative Writing and Literature Program at Stony Brook University/Southampton. She graduated from Stanford University and earned her MFA in fiction at the University of Michigan.
In addition to being the 2021 Long Island Reads Selection, The Vanishing Half was chosen as Book of the Month Club's 2020 Book of the Year and Good Morning America and Barnes and Noble Book Club picks. After winning a competitive bidding war, HBO will be adapting the novel into a limited series, with Bennett serving as Executive Producer.
